Ghanaian television host, Nana Aba Anamoah has taken to her twitter handle to besieged Ghanaians to stop spreading false news about the Ghana Armed Forces in the wake of the partial lockdown the country is currently experiencing.

The ruling president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on Friday,27th March 2020 announced a partial lockdown of some parts of the country due to the increasing number of the COVID19 disease. Ghana as of 1st April 2020 has 195 confirmed cases as published by the Ghana Health service.

To this effect, the government has deployed a joint Military and Police force to enforce the laws of the lockdown as it is expected that some citizens would flaunt the laws. A day after the start of the lockdown saw reports of alleged military abuse of civilians who either didn’t understand the directives or just wanted to test the laws.

The alleged videos of abuse went viral on social media, where scores of Ghanaians spoke bitterly against it and also called on the Military authorities to call their people to order. In her own way of encouraging Ghanaians to stop inciting people against the military, the presenter made a tweet, and asked that people stop spreading fake news about the Ghana Armed Forces.

Her call came after the Brigadier General Abraham Yeboah Nsiah on National Television responded to questions of alleged civilian abuse by a journalist at the press briefing on the update of the COVID19 in Ghana by the Ministry of Information. The Brigadier debunked the rumour of the abuses and mentioned that his people were professionals who knew their job and would not touch or abuse any civilian. He also added that one Military personnel who unfortunately got himself involved in such an act has been recalled to the barracks pending investigation.
