Soronko Academy in collaboration with the MasterCard Foundation have organized the Pre-Tech series as part of great partnership with the Young Africa Works. The collaboration aimed at running a national program to impact on the lives of young women and girls in the country.
Sharing her journey as part of a series Pre-Tech Diaries, Executive Director of Soronko Academy,Mr’s Regina Honu shared learnings, challenges, success, and testimonials as the work progressed as she said that, “We are fortunate to partner with Ghana Tech Lab, Mastercard Foundation, The World Bank, Ministry of Communications Ghana and 5 amazing Tech Hubs. We will need to design a great curriculum to introduce the women to introduction to full-stack web development and make sure the program is gender intentional. “
According to her, there is power in collective ideation and ensuring that people support the hubs to run great programs designed to ensure that women complete science and IT programs and thrive in them.
National Female Pre-tech Training Program organized at Soronko Academy, also saw Mrs. Regina Honu sharing her entrepreneurial journey, the benefits of learning to create technology, how to overcome your fears and make an impact, with the participants.
Participants were also taken through the process of downloading, installing, and the interfaces of the studio editor. The various trainers showed them how to create a new file, folders, bulk searching, and replacing and the installation of plugins.
The young women were also introduced to the UI tools within the visual studio for managing a version control system. Version control system was explained and the trainers used examples such as dropbox and google drive in their demonstrations.
They were also hinted on what was the ‘Git’, which is a version control system used to track changes and share these changes with other people on a team.
Participants were then taken through the process of creating accounts on Github and the various stages involved in adding or making changes.
Soronko Academy is a coding and human centered design academy which teaches young people technical courses in coding and ICT skills and provides them with opportunities to start their own businesses.
